Latest WhatsApp’s new features you might have missed out | 2021

For illustration
WhatsApp, the most popular phone number-based messaging app, has rolled out few new features in recent updates. Owned by Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp has a total user base of 1.4 Billion people, including both on Android and iOS smartphones. In upcoming updates couple of new features are expected to be released soon. Some of them have already been implemented in Beta Release and under tests and feedback.

Unauthorized ‘Add’ to Group:

You wake up, and you see you are added to some ABC group, and your WhatsApp is flooded with ‘unwanted’ messages. Now you can handle this situation like a Pro. Under Privacy settings, you can set who can add you to their group. Browse through Settings> Account > Privacy> Groups and change it according to your intention. It implies ‘who can add you in group and gives you ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’ and ‘Nobody’. By default, WhatsApp kept it as ‘Everyone’. If you select ‘No One’, you will get a ‘request notification’ when somebody tries to add you. Go change it. You are welcome. (wink)

Consecutive Message Play:

Now you do not need to tap on each audio clip to play that is received in the conversation. Click one, then sit back and relax. All subsequent messages will be played in sequence. For the time being, this feature will be available for Android users only. Depending upon the feedback received, it might be rolled out for iOS users also.

Forwarding WhatsApp messages to Bulk Contacts/Groups:

One of the best features of WhatsApp needed to be implemented much earlier. Well, better late than never.  Bulk forwarding of WhatsApp messages has been checked and limited to a maximum of 5 users (including Groups) at a time. This has been done to have a curb on false/fake news that is spread too fast in WhatsApp Platform. This reduces the spamming in WhatsApp groups or chats.

Intelligent Status Tab:

Currently, Statuses in WhatsApp are shown Chronologically. The latest updates are shown at first. Going forward WhatsApp is planning to change this. It is expected that statuses from the person with whom you have interacted will be shown in the first. The same algorithm is followed in Facebook or Instagram App in the news feed or story. This is still under test and released in the Beta version.

Disable Downloading DP:

This is going to crush your heart because you cannot download your crush’s profile picture. I am not kidding. In the future WhatsApp update, you cannot download anyone’s profile picture. This is still in the Beta version, but it will be rolled out soon in the main WhatsApp update.
