Contact Lenses Can Help You Zooming In By Blinking

Contact Lenses Illustration

Technology never fails to amaze us: it leaves us in awe in every moment pass by. We are now into that stage of the future where the human eye can zoom in by just blinking with the help of a tiny contact lens. Yes,  you heard it right. Few Scientists from the University of California San Diego claimed to discover this fantastic technology.

The bio-metric lenses will be driven by signals generated by the movements of the eyeballs. In simple words, the eyeballs' movements (left, right, up, down) have been studied and converted into some meaningful signals, called electrooculographic signals. Those meaning signals charge will be fed to the bio-metric lenses, which will respond to those. The polymer-made lenses will expand or contract depending upon the electric impulses fed to them, and when they become more convex, they resulted in zooming in. It is reported that blinking twice of the eye will make the lenses zoomed in.

The more advancement of this technology can be used in "visual prostheses, adjustable focal length glasses or maybe in remotely operated robotics in the future," as quoted by a researcher of the said University. Lead researcher Shengqiang Cai further added, “Even if your eye cannot see anything, many people can still move their eyeball and generate this electrooculographic signal.”
For the time being, five electrodes are connected to the lens that will act as muscles. Scientists hope this technology shortly can be used to control mobile cameras remotely.
Let us hope for the best and greatest.

All About Reon Pocket: Wearable Mini AC

An AC that accompanies you wherever you go. Sounds mind-boggling, right? However crazy the idea might seem to be, it is now made possible by Sony, who have come up with an innovative portable AC that can be worn with your clothes. The portable AC, called Reon Pocket, is smaller and lighter than a mobile phone. Sony says it has used the Peltier effect for this AC- a mechanism used in car and wine coolers. This device can be worn on the back or neck with dedicated inner-wears available in S, M, and L.

Reon Pocket

It releases cool air through a small rear panel. The device is equipped with a lithium-ion battery which can last for 90 minutes with two hours of charging. The temperature can be controlled by a smartphone which will be connected to the device via BlueTooth. Reon Pocket supports Bluetooth 5.0. This portable AC will cost about Rs 9000, which includes the price of inner-wears also. Currently, it is available only in Japan. Moreover, the dedicated inner wears are available for men only.
This mini AC might solve the discomfort caused when stepping out in the scorching heat of summer.

Periscope Camera: Zoom into the Future | 2021

Zoom is a feature that people often use in smartphone cameras, but pictures get blurred and grainy. Smartphones being so slim, getting optical zoom higher than 2X was almost impossible. Well, at least it was so until now!

It has been possible to achieve optical zoom higher than 2X by a technology which is known as ‘Periscope Camera.’ Let us see how this camera works to provide higher zooming without compromising the image quality.

The basic structure of a periscope camera consists of a mirror in a prism, a lens, and an image sensor. The light is allowed into the prism, which bends the morning to 90 degrees. This light then passes through the lens to provide the necessary zoom and is then sensed by the image sensor to send signals to the smartphone. This arrangement allows the image sensor and the lenses to sit inside the phone instead of popping out, which would look very awkward. Also, the periscope camera sensor is perpendicular to the phone's back instead of parallel to it like other camera sensors.

Periscope Camera Structure

Recently Huawei has launched a smartphone (Huawei P30 Pro) equipped with a periscope camera that allows up to 5X optical zoom. Another smartphone that comes with this technology is the Oppo Reno which provides 10X optical zoom. Xiaomi is also working on a periscope lens smartphone camera, and it is expected to be delivered in upcoming smartphones. Below are some images which depict the zoom achieved by the periscope camera.

Origami is Being Used in the Space Technology

Almost all of us made this paper boat at some point in our life and played with this.
Photo : Paper Boat
Some of you might have pushed your limit and made this far also.
Photo : Paper Toys
Now, do you know what this art is called? It is called Origami- the art of folding paper and making some object/structure out of it.
Most of us knew this. Most of us also believe that these all are for fun only.

But will you believe that NASA scientists also apply the origami technique in launching rockets or satellites in the sky?

Allow me to explain.

Scientists try to make rocket hardware as small and concise as possible. They try to pack as much technology as possible into smaller space-bound packages.

Example: An well discussed such hardware is Starshade. Starshade is a giant flower-like design that will help astronauts or scientists to take pictures of different exoplanets. Taking a direct photo of exoplanets is difficult because of the brighter lights of suns and other stars.
Starshade is being designed to cover the bright lights so that the best photos of the celestial objects can be taken in space. You can see below.
starshade-technology-origami
Now the challenge was to launch that giant-sized flower through a rocket. So, scientists took the help of origami art to turn impossible into possibilities. And this is illustrated like this:

Now, you understand how your childhood-made-paper-boat-making technique is related to space-related rockets and satellites.

Nokia Daredevil | Leaked Photos Site Triple Rear Camera, 2021

A bunch of photos of Nokia Daredevil is moving around here and there on the internet. It seems that Nokia plans to enter into the smartphone industry once again with its weird camera feature. It is not much time passed by when a Nokia phone surfaced on the internet. The leaked pictures of the Nokia 9 PureView proved the handset to be weird because that contained 5 rear cameras placed in a circular module. The official trailer of the Nokia 9 PureView has been released.

Not much is known about the unreleased Nokia Daredevil device; from the photos (circulated by @fenibook), some features can be quickly expected to be present in the upcoming handset.

Photo: Nokia Daredevil

  • The handset has three cameras in the rear. Some pictures suggest there could be two of them, and another camera-like thing is a sensor.
  • The handset has got a rear fingerprint sensor.
  • The device will come with a 48MP(f/1.8) rear camera with a toggle switch for wide-angle photography. That indicates one of the rear cameras is having a wide-angle lens.
As said earlier, official specifications have not been released. However, Slashleaks shared a screenshot with some specifications captured that suggest the below specifications:
  • Android 9,
  • 2340×1080 display,
  • Snapdragon 660,
  • 48MP primary,
  • 3500mAh battery
There might be a slight discrepancy in the information about this Nokia Daredevil device present on the internet it is needless to say that Nokia is really trying hard to get into the smartphone industry with its really unique camera design and feature.
