WhatsApp is Finally Addressing its Biggest Issue | 2021

With a hopping of 2 Bn active monthly users, Facebook founder Zuckerberg-owned WhatsApp is regularly updating its interface and making it more end-user-friendly. The instant messaging app was initially founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, the two former employees of Yahoo!. Though it was based out of the USA, currently, it has a huge user base worldwide. Except for few countries like China, Iran, Turkey, and Brazil, this app is accessible from most of the countries.

In the year of 2014, this company was acquired by Facebook for approximately 19.3 Bn USD. Though initially, the update curve was a little flat, currently the app is getting updated very frequently. Recently we just learned about the disappearing mode in WhatsApp, which is already rolled out in its Beta version for testing.

WhatsApp already released the latest version(2.21.12.21) on the Play Store and the Apple store. This version is rolled out and this lets the users control the speed of the received or sent audio. You can listen to the received voice message at 1x, 1.5x, and 2x speed.

Enough talking! Let us get back to the Title of the post.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on the feature where it will let the users select the video quality before sending it. Yes, you heard it right. It was really a pain in the arse if you wanted to share any video with your expected quality as WhatsApp like any other app used to compress the same to the lowest quality. Though this feature is initially coming to be applicable for the videos only, we are hoping that the feature will be ported to images and GIFs too.

The version of WhatsApp where this feature will be rolled is not out in the news yet. Stay tuned to get that information.

WABetaInfo also shared some more information about the customized format in which the videos can be sent. They are described below-
Auto (recommended): WhatsApp will detect what is the best compression algorithm for specific videos.
Best quality: WhatsApp will always send the video using the best quality available!
Data saver: When Data saver is enabled in your Android settings, WhatsApp will compress videos before sending them.

'Dekh Kar Delete Kar Dena' Feature to WhatsApp User | View Once/Disappearing Mode

Now, the 'Dekh Kar Delete Kar Dena' feature is officially going to roll out to WhatsApp Users! No kidding, this is real.

Think about an online instant messaging application, and WhatsApp will surely cross our minds. It is reported that as of April 2021, monthly 2 billion people around the globe are accessing WhatsApp for instant messaging. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg-owned, this company is regularly updating its features to give its user an edge.

Will Catcher, the current CEO of WhatsApp confirmed the release of the new feature in their messaging application.

WhatsApp is planning to roll out the view-once feature for its users. If the photos/videos are tagged as 'view once' by the sender then the recipients can see the image/video only once. Once the photo or video closed or dismissed then the same will be instantly deleted.

The planned Beta version to have this feature in-built is 2.21.14.3. Not everyone with this Beta version can have that experience as WhatsApp is giving this feature only to some select users. Further, this Beta version has been rolled out only for Androids as of now.

The current regular version that is available in Google PlayStore(in India) is 2.21.12.21 that is updated on 21st June 2021. So, it seems the end-users will have to wait until another couple of updates are officially released with the view-once feature.

As of now, it is not clear if the users have to enable this feature from the Privacy Settings or it will be by default. The photos released by WABetaInfo suggest that privacy settings will contain the 'Disappearing Mode' with toggling 'On or Off' options.

The photo below depicts the feature that will have a tap button '1' from where users can browse the ephemeral image/videos. Captions to the media can still be added.

The media will appear to the chat thread to transfer to the recipients. The feature will work on the groups as well.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a 2.0 version of this feature. If the news is true then WhatsApp users will be able to send photos with timer expiry also. That means if the photo is not opened within the specified time set by the sender, the same will automatically be deleted.
